Where people work together and live together differences of opinion, conflicts and arguments will arise. Of course there will be and always have been conflicts at school. Whilst conflicts are burdensome and annoying nevertheless they can also clear the air. Often a conflict will solve itself. However, sometimes it gets out of hand. Then it can affect the atmosphere in a group or class or even the entire school.
Schools cannot avoid conflicts but they can keep them under control and resolve them. Peer mediation can make a positive difference in this respect.
Practice has shown that pupils are more inclined to listen to their peers. Children of the same age group find it easier to communicate with one another as they do not have to adapt their language and can just be who they are.
